The Tandem Race 2008

The Tandem race, one of Lund’s proudest student traditions, will this year be held on the 9-10^th of May. Krischansta will of course be participating with its ambitious and powerful tandem team!

During the race most nations, and also some of the faculties will be riding a tandem bicycle from Gothenburg back to Lund. This might seem like a bit of a steep task, but each team will have there own bus full of riders. The stretch Gothenburg-Lund will be divided into several smaller runs which means that no riders will do more than a couple of miles before handing over to two new riders. As the courages two endure the hardships of the race (ok, the race doesn't have that many hardships, but it sounds good) the rest of the team will be keeping themselves awake aboard the bus by singing, dancing and having one long party. Every time a buss passes it's own riders it will stop and everybody will get out and cheer their team-mates along. With all the stopping, starting, singing, eating and the to discos thrown along the way it will take quite a while for the teams to reach Lund. Somewhere around 15 hours to be more specific.

The journey will start from the nation house sometime around noon Friday. We should reach Gothenburg sometime in the early afternoon after which each person is free to stroll around Gothenburg until 6 o'clock when we meet up at Götaplatsen. This is the official starting point. The atmosphere there will be amazing! The first stretch, taking us to an IKEA parking lot outside Gothenburg, will be ridden by our "kuratel" while the rest of us get on the bus. Once at the parking lot it will be time for the night's first open air disco. From there on it just rolls on all night long, it being on big, long, lovely party. We will be back in Lund around noon on Saturday, were the tandem race of 2008 will (as always) be concluded by swimming in the fountain in Lundagård.

At the end of the race several prizes will be handed out. There is the "time prize" for the team who does the stretch Gothenburg-Lund closest to the secret ideal time. It is in other words not the first team in to Lund who wins, but the one being lucky enough to hit a time the didn't know they were aiming for. Apart from the "time prize" there is also the "screw-up prize", given to the team with most problems, the "party prize" given to the team who never lets the party die and "Stora och Lilla Bergshackan" given to the two teams that do two especially demanding parts of the trip the fastest.
